A warrant for Brandon Aiyuk over a speeding video caps a brutal stretch with the 49ers
Santa Clara County charged Aiyuk with exhibition of speeding for a YouTube clip near Levi's Stadium. It lands amid a knee injury, voided guarantees, and a team that says he's played his last snap there.
The Santa Clara County District Attorney issued a warrant for Brandon Aiyuk on a misdemeanor charge of exhibition of speeding, stemming from a YouTube video the receiver posted in December showing himself driving a Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing over the 40 mph limit on Tasman Drive near Levi's Stadium. It's the latest turn in an unraveling 49ers tenure.
What's the charge?
A misdemeanor for exhibition of speeding. Aiyuk posted footage to YouTube in December showing himself driving over the 40 mph limit on Tasman Drive near Levi's Stadium. Santa Clara police investigated and forwarded the case to the DA on January 15, and a warrant followed. Aiyuk had already apologized after posting the clip: 'Sorry y'all, my car content won't come with speeding anymore. My apologies.'
How does this fit his situation with the 49ers?
It piles onto an already-broken relationship. Aiyuk tore his ACL, MCL, and meniscus in October 2024 and hasn't played since. The 49ers placed him on the reserve/left squad list and voided roughly $27 million in guaranteed money after he failed to participate in mandatory rehab sessions for the knee. The legal matter is separate from the football dispute, but it lands at the worst possible time for a player whose standing with the organization was already gone.
What's his future in San Francisco?
Effectively over, by the team's own words. GM John Lynch and coach Kyle Shanahan indicated in January that Aiyuk had 'played his final snaps' with the 49ers. The team has tried and failed to trade him this offseason, leaving him in a limbo of voided guarantees, an unresolved knee, and now a misdemeanor warrant. The 100-days feature that projected a Brandon Aiyuk trade as 'expected' looks more complicated by the week.
