Jaguars Lock Up Brenton Strange on 3-Year Deal Worth Up to $48M

Jacksonville keeps its rising tight end off the market with $25 million guaranteed as the position cashes in across the league.

The Jacksonville Jaguars have agreed to a three-year extension with tight end Brenton Strange worth up to $48 million, with $25 million guaranteed, securing one of their most important young pass catchers before he could reach the open market.

What are the terms of the deal?

Strange's extension is a three-year agreement that can reach $48 million in total value, an average of roughly $16 million per season. The deal includes $25 million in guaranteed money, giving him real security after he was set to enter the final year of his rookie contract. Strange was drafted in the second round, 61st overall, in 2023, so this is his first major payday. General manager James Gladstone had signaled preliminary extension talks with Strange and receiver Parker Washington following the 2025 season. Getting the deal done now removes any uncertainty about his future in Jacksonville.

Why is Strange worth this kind of money to Jacksonville?

Strange emerged as a central piece of the Jaguars offense in 2025, catching 46 passes for 540 yards and three touchdowns in just 12 games before a hip injury cost him five contests. The team's results with and without him were stark. Jacksonville went 11-1 and averaged 30.1 points per game when Strange played, compared to 2-3 and 22.6 points in his absence. Across three seasons he has totaled 91 catches, 981 yards and six touchdowns. For a Jaguars offense built around quarterback Trevor Lawrence, keeping a reliable, productive tight end in the middle of the field was a clear priority.

How does this fit the wider tight end market?

Strange's deal lands in the middle of a busy offseason for tight end contracts around the league. The Atlanta Falcons recently extended Kyle Pitts on a three-year, $54 million agreement, setting a nearby reference point for the position. Those moves reflect how much teams now value athletic tight ends who can stress defenses in the passing game. For Jacksonville, locking up Strange at roughly $16 million per year keeps a known commodity in place rather than gambling on the market. It also gives the Jaguars cost certainty at the position as they continue building their offense around Lawrence.
