Rams' Alaric Jackson Suspended One Game on Appeal for Punching Bradley Chubb

Update: the NFL suspended Jackson two games; on appeal, hearing officer Derrick Brooks cut it to one. He misses Sunday's game against Arizona, with David Quessenberry starting, and returns in Week 7. Chubb denies saying anything about Jackson's mother.

Los Angeles Rams left tackle Alaric Jackson punched Buffalo Bills linebacker Bradley Chubb in the face near midfield after Monday night's 37-34 overtime loss in Inglewood. Jackson had taken off his pads and jersey and was exchanging jerseys with Bills lineman Deone Walker when Chubb appeared to say something, and Jackson walked over and swung with his right hand. Tight end Colby Parkinson pulled him away.

What did Chubb say?

Not much. "It's just emotions, you know what I mean? Emotional game," he told reporters in Buffalo's locker room, adding that "they always catch the second guy. So, I let him swing." Asked who threw the punch, he said, "Somebody swung, but hey, that's not on me to tell who," and that he was "ready for next week." Bills safety C.J. Gardner-Johnson was less restrained on X: "So what we gone do about dude hitting Chub!"

Will Jackson be disciplined?

Neither team had addressed the incident as of Tuesday morning and the NFL has not commented. Postgame punches have drawn fines and suspensions in the past, and a suspension would leave the Rams without their starting left tackle for Sunday's home game against Arizona. The Week 6 prediction for that game assumes Jackson's status is unresolved.

What did the league do?

It suspended Jackson two games without pay on Tuesday under the rule covering acts contrary to the principles of sportsmanship. On Wednesday, hearing officer Derrick Brooks, appointed jointly by the league and the players' union, reduced it to one game without giving a reason. Jackson sits Sunday against the Cardinals and is eligible in Week 7 against Las Vegas. It is his second suspension; he missed the first two games of 2024 under the personal conduct policy. Jackson has not commented. At Bills practice Wednesday, Chubb addressed a rumor about what preceded the punch: "I've heard I was talking about his mom. That's not true at all."
