Saints Place Travis Etienne Jr. on Injured Reserve With Hamstring Injury
Update: the Saints placed Etienne on injured reserve, so he will miss at least four games. Kellen Moore says it will take a little while. Alvin Kamara and Kendre Miller take most of the snaps.
New Orleans Saints running back Travis Etienne Jr. "will miss time with a hamstring issue," coach Kellen Moore said Monday. Moore did not give a timeline or say whether Etienne will go on injured reserve.
When was he hurt?
Midway through the third quarter of Sunday's 35-27 loss to the Raiders. Etienne had been on the injury report with the hamstring during the week but practiced fully Friday. He pulled up after a 16-yard run, went to the locker room and did not return.
Who carries the ball on Monday night?
After the injury the Saints gave six carries to Alvin Kamara and four to Kendre Miller. For the season Kamara has 18 carries for 51 yards after missing the opener, and Miller has 13 for 44 and a touchdown. Rookie CJ Donaldson is the third option against the Falcons.
How long is he out?
At least four games, and possibly more. "It'll take a little while, at least four weeks and then we'll just kind of see how this thing progresses," Moore said. The injury did not require surgery. Etienne signed a four-year, $52 million contract in free agency. Moore said Kamara and Miller will handle the load, with CJ Donaldson used in short yardage and pass protection, and the team signed Ulysses Bentley IV to the practice squad.
