Harrison Smith Returns to Vikings for 15th Season on One-Year Deal
The 37-year-old safety, whose contract Minnesota terminated in March for cap reasons, is back on a deal worth $12.25 million that can reach $16.25 million.
Safety Harrison Smith is returning to the Minnesota Vikings for a 15th season on a one-year deal with a base value of $12.25 million and a maximum of $16.25 million, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport and Mike Garafolo.
Why wasn't he on the roster?
Minnesota terminated Smith's contract in March for salary-cap purposes, and the team had staged an elaborate sendoff for him during the final game of 2025, which suggested it expected him to retire. Smith, 37, never announced a retirement.
What does he still bring?
Smith finished 2025 strong, including a Christmas Day game against Detroit with a sack, an interception, two tackles for loss and three passes defensed. A first-round pick out of Notre Dame in 2012, he has 39 career interceptions and 21.5 sacks, one of six defensive backs in league history with at least 35 interceptions and 20 sacks. The other five are in the Hall of Fame.
