Tre Hawkins III arrived in the league as a long, physical corner out of Old Dominion who made an immediate impact for the New York Giants before his career was interrupted by a serious back injury. After signing with Washington's practice squad late in 2025, he is working his way back onto an NFL roster.

Path to the league

Hawkins started his college career at Trinity Valley Community College before transferring to Old Dominion, where he developed into a productive three-year starter with 134 tackles, two interceptions, and 12 pass deflections. The New York Giants drafted him in the sixth round (209th overall) of the 2023 NFL Draft.

Career highlights

As a Giants rookie, Hawkins played in all 17 games and logged 35 combined tackles. His signature moment came in Week 14 of 2023 when he intercepted Derek Carr, snapping an 11-game interception drought for the Giants defense. He stands out physically at 6'3" with the length teams covet at outside cornerback.

2025 season recap

Hawkins' 2024 season with the Giants ended early after he suffered a fractured lumbar spine, limiting him to 10 tackles across three appearances. He did not play for New York in 2025; instead, the Commanders signed him to their practice squad on November 5, 2025, and he later signed a reserve/futures contract with Washington in January 2026 as he works to reestablish himself.
