Rasul Douglas Signs One-Year Deal With Commanders to Bolster Secondary

The veteran cornerback lands in Washington on a one-year contract worth up to $3.8 million after a strong 2025 season in Miami.

The Washington Commanders are adding an experienced cornerback to their secondary. Rasul Douglas is set to sign a one-year deal with the Commanders worth up to $3.8 million, per sources. The move gives Washington a proven veteran with a knack for takeaways as the franchise continues to build around quarterback Jayden Daniels.

Who is Rasul Douglas and where has he played?

Rasul Douglas is a 30-year-old cornerback entering his tenth NFL season. He has started 93 games across five different teams, including the Philadelphia Eagles, Carolina Panthers, Green Bay Packers, Buffalo Bills, and Miami Dolphins. Over nine seasons, Douglas has collected 21 career interceptions, establishing himself as a ballhawk who can create turnovers. That kind of production has kept him in demand around the league even as he has moved from roster to roster.

What did Douglas do in 2025?

Douglas signed with the Miami Dolphins after roster cuts and appeared in 15 games last season. He began the year behind Jack Jones and Storm Duck on the depth chart, but he moved into the starting lineup once Duck went down with a Week 1 injury and became Miami's primary cornerback by season's end. He allowed 54 completions on 82 targets for 515 yards and three touchdowns while defending 13 passes, tied for the second-most in a single season in his career. He also earned AFC Defensive Player of the Week honors after a Week 14 game against the New York Jets in which he recorded five pass deflections and an interception. He did miss two games with foot and ankle injuries.

How does this fit Washington's plans?

The Commanders are an ascending team, and adding Douglas fits a roster building momentum around quarterback Jayden Daniels. Washington has drawn plenty of attention this offseason, including repeated reports that wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk wants to join the team. The franchise is also set to host the 2027 NFL draft, a sign of its rising profile across the league. Bringing in a veteran corner with 21 career interceptions gives the secondary a dependable presence on a low-risk, one-year commitment.
