A Heisman finalist-caliber battering ram at Arizona State whose electric Giants rookie season was cut short by a gruesome ankle injury.
Cam Skattebo became a folk hero at Arizona State with a bruising, do-everything style that carried the Sun Devils deep into the 2024 College Football Playoff and pushed him to fifth in Heisman Trophy voting. The Giants took him in the fourth round of the 2025 draft, and he was one of the league's most productive rookies before a severe ankle injury ended his first season early.
Path to the league
Skattebo's breakout 2024 season at Arizona State produced 2,316 yards from scrimmage and 24 touchdowns, capped by a Peach Bowl performance of 143 rushing yards, two touchdowns, eight catches for 99 yards and a 42-yard touchdown pass in a double-overtime loss to Texas. The Giants drafted him in the fourth round, 105th overall, in the 2025 NFL Draft.
Career highlights
Skattebo's 2024 Arizona State season, which included his Heisman finalist campaign and the Sun Devils' run to the College Football Playoff, remains the signature achievement of his career to date.
2025 season recap
Skattebo was one of the NFL's most productive rookie backs through Week 8, racking up 617 yards from scrimmage and seven touchdowns, including 410 rushing yards and five scores on the ground plus 24 catches for 207 yards and two touchdowns through the air. His season ended in Week 8 against Philadelphia when he suffered a dislocated ankle and fractured tibia going up for a catch, an injury that required surgery and sidelined him for the rest of 2025.
