Jets' Omar Cooper Jr. Returns From IR for Patriots Game; Breece Hall Out Again
Update: Cooper is being activated from injured reserve and will play Sunday at New England as the No. 3 receiver. Breece Hall and Adonai Mitchell are out again.
The New York Jets placed rookie receiver Omar Cooper Jr. on injured reserve Saturday with a sprained ankle. The 30th overall pick out of Indiana is expected back after the four-game minimum, which makes him eligible Oct. 18 against the Patriots.
How did it happen?
Cooper played four snaps in the 23-10 win over Tennessee. On the opening possession he caught a short pass, broke several tackles and gained 30 yards to set up a touchdown, then left the game. He did not practice this week and was ruled out Friday.
Who is left at receiver?
With Tim Patrick also on injured reserve, the Jets have Garrett Wilson and Adonai Mitchell as starters and Isaiah Williams and Arian Smith behind them. Sterling Shepard and Tyler Johnson were signed to the practice squad but are unlikely to be elevated Sunday. New York carries five tight ends and used all five on one play against the Titans, so expect heavy personnel against the Packers.
When is he back?
Sunday against the Patriots. Cooper practiced fully Friday and will be activated from injured reserve into an open roster spot, slotting in as the No. 3 receiver. Breece Hall (quadriceps) misses a third straight game, so Braelon Allen, who ran for 116 yards against Cleveland, leads the backfield again. Adonai Mitchell (finger) misses a fourth straight game, and guard Dylan Parham and edge rusher Joseph Ossai are also out. Rookie tight end Kenyon Sadiq is finishing the concussion protocol and was not ruled out.
