The youngest player in the 2024 NFL Draft class, Allen brought a bruising downhill running style from Wisconsin's storied backfield to the Jets.
Braelon Allen is a running back for the New York Jets who was still a teenager when he was drafted, having reclassified and graduated high school a year early. He built his college reputation as a workhorse back at Wisconsin before becoming a fourth-round pick in 2024.
Path to the league
A Fond du Lac, Wisconsin native, Allen reclassified in high school to graduate early and enroll at Wisconsin, becoming one of the youngest major college football players in the country. Over his Badgers career he rushed for 3,494 yards, ninth-most in program history, and 35 touchdowns, joining Jonathan Taylor as the only Wisconsin backs with at least 150 carries, 10 touchdowns and 5.25 yards per carry in three separate seasons. The Jets selected him in the fourth round, 134th overall, of the 2024 NFL Draft.
Career highlights
Allen entered the NFL as the youngest player in his draft class, turning just 20 years old during his rookie season. His physical running style, built on a 6-foot-1, 235-pound frame, made him a natural complement to New York's backfield behind starter Breece Hall.
2025 season recap
Allen opened 2025 as Breece Hall's primary backup, totaling 93 yards from scrimmage and a touchdown over his first four games. He suffered an MCL injury in Week 4 against the Miami Dolphins that was expected to sideline him 8 to 12 weeks, and he was placed on injured reserve, finishing the season with 18 carries for 76 yards and one touchdown.
