9 scores Week 3: Jets Visit Lions After Detroit's Defense Allowed 41 in Buffalo
Read the full recap →The New York Jets visit the Detroit Lions on Sunday, September 27. New York is 1-1 after a 20-17 overtime loss to Green Bay in which it outgained the Packers 285 to 199, and first-round receiver Omar Cooper Jr. went on injured reserve with a sprained ankle, leaving four healthy receivers. Detroit is 1-1 and has had ten days since a 41-31 loss at Buffalo; the Lions have allowed 63 first downs through two games, tied for the second most in league history, defensive back Avonte Maddox left that game on crutches, and safeties Brian Branch and Kerby Joseph remain on the PUP list.
Detroit's defense
Thirty-one and 41 points allowed, Jack Campbell's tearful postgame, and a secondary missing both starting safeties; Geno Smith threw for 247 yards against Green Bay.
Gibbs behind a patched line
Fifty-two yards against Buffalo with two starters out; Christian Mahogany and Blake Miller's status for this week will decide whether the run game returns.
New York's receiver shortage
Garrett Wilson, Adonai Mitchell and two backups; the Jets used all five tight ends on one play in Week 1.
Pregame AI Prediction
How the prediction did
Predicted 20-27 (Jets vs Lions), final was 24-31. Right winner and the 7-point margin called exactly, with both teams 4 points over the projection. Jahmyr Gibbs scored three touchdowns and Jared Goff went 25 of 32. Geno Smith threw for 321 yards and three scores against a Lions defense that has now allowed 95 points in three games.
Jets Lions Ford Field and ten days of rest
Detroit's offense scored 31 in Buffalo; at home against a Jets defense that allowed 20 to a Packers offense with 199 yards, it should score again.
The Jets' offense is limited
Twenty and 17 points, four receivers, and Breece Hall averaging under 2 yards a carry against Green Bay.
Detroit's defense keeps the total high
The Lions have not stopped anyone, which caps the confidence at Medium.
A Medium lean on Detroit's offense at home. The Lions' defense is the reason this is a touchdown and not a two-score projection.
