7 scores Week 1: Saleh Faces the Jets as Titans Open at Home
Read the full recap →The New York Jets visit the Tennessee Titans on Sunday, September 13, in a matchup of teams that both went 3-14 last year. Tennessee opens under new coach Robert Saleh, who the Jets fired midway through 2024, with Brian Daboll calling plays for second-year quarterback Cam Ward and No. 4 overall pick Carnell Tate expected to debut after some minor camp soreness. New York has Geno Smith, acquired from Las Vegas, running Frank Reich's offense, with Breece Hall expected back from a groin strain and No. 2 overall pick David Bailey on the edge.
Saleh's first game as Titans coach is against his old team
Tennessee spent heavily on cornerbacks Alontae Taylor and Cor'Dale Flott and starts a fifth-round rookie at right guard, so the roster is very different from last year's 3-14 team.
Ward's second season with a real play-caller
Ward threw 17 interceptions as a rookie. Daboll's arrival and a healthy shoulder are the two changes Tennessee is counting on.
Lowest total on the board
Sportsbooks have this game near a pick'em with a total under 40, which reflects how little either offense showed in 2025.
Pregame AI Prediction
How the prediction did
Predicted 17-20 (Jets vs Titans), final was 23-10. The Jets won 23-10 in Robert Saleh's debut against his former team, a miss for the low-confidence home-field lean.
Jets Titans Home field is the tiebreaker between two rebuilt rosters
Neither team has a clear talent edge on paper, and the Jets went 3-14 in their last 17 road games.
Geno Smith is the steadier quarterback right now
Smith gives New York a floor Ward did not provide last year, which keeps the Jets in a low-scoring game.
Rookie-heavy lineups on both sides
Tate, Bailey and Tennessee's rookie guard all play major snaps in their first game, which is why the confidence stays low.
A genuine coin flip. The pick leans on home field and Tennessee's offseason spending on defense rather than any clear mismatch.
